Katlenburg/Budapest, 19.03.2012 – Leading and independent wine experts in Hungary have examined the young and yet growing segment of fruit wine towards end of 2011. The leading Wine magazine VinCe has arranged a major blind taste testing and focused on 17 well known and lesser known Fruit Wines. Among these and right on top at last: KATLENBURGER.
Nine vintners, sommeliers, wine merchants, wine advisors and certified judges have made a step by step approach to the growing niche of Fruit Wines, in order to constitute a professional opinion for themselves. Although the taste of Fruit Wine is rather new for many wine connoisseurs, VinCe asses in their issue Dec.-Jan. 2012 that more and more wine fanciers also consume Fruit Wine. Since these wines can be found on the market at an increasing number, it was decided to put the products to the prove.
Experience of the Hungarian wine experts confirms that these products still suffer a niche-existence. “Some guests enjoy Fruit Wine for a dessert together with fruit, or even instead of a dessert as a specialty”, reports Kerek Noémi, sommelier of Kadarka Wine Bar. Gábor Siket, vintner at Kontyos Winehouse, is convinced “In the course of time good Fruit Wines will find their place in the restaurant business. And I hope they will become more and more popular.”
With 16,94 out of 20 points KATLENBURGER Blackcurrant Fruit Wine has convinced as „clearly best Fruit Wine on the Hungarian market“ – so far the conclusion of experts.
“Nice velvet colour, fresh, appealing fruit scent with vanilla and caramel. Flavour – due to the hint of scent – light, fruity and refined.
A wine with defined blackcurrant taste and well-balanced acid. Not overly sweet, even the alcohol is not too characteristic. Absolutely best Fruit Wine in the test.“
Klaus Demuth, Managing Director of the family-run KATLENBURGER Winery Dr. Demuth, is pleased about this result: “This test result is a another acknowledgement of our core competence after we received the Japan Wine Challenge ‘Best of Country Award 2011’, as well as the highest Award ‘Bundesehrenpreis in Gold’ from our Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. This is of course also motivation for our employees and shows that we are on the right track also on international markets.
